The aim is to create a management agent for your HR data source. In this example I’m using a SQL database, but it could equally be CSV, SAP, Oracle or something else. Remember NDS or e Directory as it later became known?NDS might be mostly dead, in favor of AD (Active Directory), but NDS did have many advantages over AD, and one of them was the ability to assign rights (permissions) via OU membership. We already have a popular post for the configuration of IFD setup with CRM 2013 and CRM 2011. Microsoft have a compatibility listing for CRM 2015 here: Once again we are running this configuration as a test environment for development. As such we will be running, we are running the server on a Hyper V server. The service account used in the connection properties of the Management Agent must have sufficient rights to execute the required changes in AD.Typically a Domain Admin account will be used, but if this is not permitted in your environment you will need to do some testing. Value = mail Nickname 'The following filter selects users whose department equals the DDL cn csentry("ms Exch Dynamic DLFilter"). cn=System Mailbox)" _ & "(&(&(&(& (mailnickname=*)" _ & "(| (&(object Category=person)(object Class=user)" _ & "(|(home MDB=*)(ms Exch Home Server Name=*))) )))" _ & "(object Category=user)(department=" _ & mventry("cn").
Some applications with integrated access to AD allow for OU assignments, but that doesn’t help you with your day-to-day maintenance of your Active Directory domain.
The managed object types discussed are Users, Contacts, Groups and Dynamic Distribution Lists.
The article also covers the special cases of adding mailboxes to existing accounts, and supporting a Resource Forest.
Want to give users in a specific OU access to a particular file system folder?
No problem in NDS, just assign the OU (container) to the folder.
